11/27/2013 - Practicum Blog

Today when I arrived I packaged up my order from yesterday and got that all done and out of the way, then I got right into my next order. This order calls for 60 super upgraded desktops, and all I had to do was pull out the old HDD, put in a new one and add 4GB of RAM to them. Seeing as the order calls for 60 desktops I was pretty much doing hands on work all day, which I love!

So after lunch I hooked up 8 desktops to do a Burn-In test on them and went right back into upgrading desktops since Burn-Ins take 3 hours per PC. here's a picture of the desktops I'm working with,

This was pretty much my entire day, and it will probably be working on them all tomorrow too since its such a big order.

Thanks for taking the time to read this~

  1. This isn't really helpful but I'm curious, How do you get your orders? Is there a checklist you have to follow before you can turn in all of your work? And what do you mean by Burn-In Tests?

    1. My supervisor will print out a order that a particular person requests, and he'll give it to me to complete, like right now I have a order of 60 desktops and 49 monitors for this school. So I have to get the desktops from the warehouse, install the hardware & software that they request. I'm not 100% sure what the Burn-Ins are, I have to run it with pxe boot. I'm pretty sure its just like burning in the new hardware, but it takes 3 hours to finish so thats the pain. Once I have the finish product I put them on a pallet and wrap it up to be shipped. the way I turn in my work is just telling them that its done and ready. I love it here though, getting a lot of experience and its fun
